| Sika deer at Nara Park |
This is one of the many deer photos I captured at Nara Park, Japan. The hundreds of free roaming sika deer are the main draw of this popular tourist site. Together with the lush greenery, magnificent temples and shrines with their decorative statues and sculptures as the backdrop, the ubiquitous deer offer great photo capturing opportunities for the enthusiasts.
My family thoroughly enjoyed our day trip here. Charlotte loved feeding the deer with the deer crackers and has been asking me when we are returning to the park again :-).

Have never been to Nara but heard that the deer there are quite aggressive seeing the crackers~ haha!
ReplyDeleteHaha....that's very true! We were not prepared when we first bought the crackers. The deer came to us like a pack of hungry wolves! We gained from that experience and know how to deal with them on later feeding sessions. Will share more in my later blog of Nara Park :-)

DeleteThat reminds me when I was feeding one of them and in no time, I was already surrounded by a dozen more. But the Nara deer is one smart bunch, just show them both of your empty hands and they will just ignore you. LOL

DeleteI loved Nara when I visited - I was so surprised by how many deer were actually around, and how cheeky they can be! They kept poking in my pockets :)

DeleteI was there last summer and Nara Park was extremely nice. We bought few snacks for deers and they were trying to chase us to be fed hehehe. What is more, our hostel was located in the middle of the park. We arrived at night and had to walk through the whole park to get there. It was dark and there were deers around us. Such a scary moment!! LOL

So you get out at Nara station - is the Deer park within walking distance? Where are the Deer? Is it free?? HOw much is food?? (for the Deer ha ha)
ReplyDeleteIt is walking distance (about 20-30 min). You can take a bus from the Nara station. There is a tourist information center there where you can ask for direction. Most of the deer are in Nara park which is free. Some of the nearby temples and shrines have entrance fees charge though. Deer crackers are about 150 yen per pack. Be careful to hide them after purchase or the deer will come "hunting" for you !!! :-)
